Home Party with Japanese food!!

Today, we had a home party at our home...( I already feel that this is not Masami's but our apartment! ) We started cooking Japanese food in the early morning!! Masami made sushi and Asian salada and I cooked chicken and Japanese mushroom called, Shimeji. Yeah, we can get Shimeji in Brazil and Japanese sweet potato!! In Botson, I have seen Shimeji but I never seen Japanese sweet poteto. ( It looks like American sweet potato that inside is orange, but taste totally different!!! )

Well, My friend, Masami is a social worker and she can use 3 sign-languages, American, Japanese, and Portuguese. Her friends who visited us are from England. They are deaf so They were talking in sign-language. when they talk, they use facial expression and whole body to communicate and even I, who don't know any sign-language, can understand their conversations sometimes! It was a very interesting experience. Masami explained that they are using mixture of 3 sign-language, America, English and Portuguese. Wow...that would be so...complicated!!! One thing that made me supprised is that American and English sign-languages are totally different even though their speaking language is the same!!

Japaense : place a hand on your cheek and tap it 2-3 times.
Brazilian : place the middle finger on your chin with open hand and slide the finget toward to the direction of fingertop.


今日は我が家で（ってすっかり自分家にいる気分になっている私！）パーティーでした！
朝から、せっこらと日本食を作り、イギリスから来ている二人に日本の味を楽しんでもらおうと！
マサミが、手巻きすしと、春雨のサラダを作って、私がしめじのバター炒めと鳥のショウガ焼きをつくった！
そうそう、ブラジルでは、しめじが手に入る。おまけにさつま芋まで売っている！アメリカでは、しめじはそれほど珍しくなかったけれど、さつま芋はなかったな。。。あ、紫色のお芋！と思って喜んで買うと中身がオレンジ色のたるーい、甘ーいお芋だったりしたもんな。。。

話を戻して、友達のマサミはソーシャルワーカーで、日本、アメリカ、ブラジルの手話を使いこなしている。今日遊びに来てくれた友達は、マサミの同僚で、イギリスから来ている、聾者のカップル。彼女達が手話で話をしているのを、じーっと見ていると、ちょこちょこっと、分かる時もあったりして、楽しかった！！
もちろん、手話での会話では、顔の表情がとても豊かで、話し手の雰囲気なんかは、言語がわからなくても、びしびし伝わってくる！！
どこの手話で話しているのか？と聞くと、ブラジル、アメリカ、イギリスのミックスで話しているとのこと。
驚いたのが、アメリカとイギリスは両方とも英語圏なのに、手話は全く異なるらしい。アルファベットのサインすら違うって言うんだから、全く不思議！
その上、手話というのはその国の言語からは独立して一つの言語として成り立っているって言うんだから、私の友達は、６言語を使いこなしていることになる！すごいな〜〜〜

今日覚えた手話：美味しい
日本語：ほっぺをポンポンと手のひらで軽くたたく
ブラジル：手のひらを内側に向け、中指を顎につけ指の先方向へ動かす
