The last day in Brazil!

Three months passed so quickly.
Today is the last day in Brazil and I'm leaving for DC tomorrow.

It was a wonderful three months!! meeing beautiful people and having a great experience warmed me up so much!!

Packing is almost done and we went out for dinner. I had the last "Carne de Sol"!
It means, "Meat of the sun!" and this is one of my favorite Brazilian meal!!
It's just a normal stake but somehow it taste soooooo good!!

After dinner, while I was cutting Masami's hair for the last time, Micheline called us and asked if she could come over.

The family held a good bye party for me yesterday and today Henri (the first son, Henrique's baby) has baptized in a church. So we attended the baptism and of course enjoyed the party with them again. When we left the house, everyone gave me a hug and Micheline said to me that "she already miss me..."..I couldn't hold my tears....they are my Brazilian family and I also miss them already!!

When Micheline came over, she was crying again and telling us that all good friends are going away... I wish I could say that's not true...but I'm the one who is leaving...
BUT, I'm sure we could connected by hearts!!
Micheline!, I will be back to see you again!!

This is the beginning of my new step!




３ヶ月があっという間に過ぎました！
今日が、ブラジル最後の日です！明日は飛行機に乗ってワシントンDCに帰るのです。

本当に短い３ヶ月でした。
それでも、素敵な人たちと出会い、素敵な体験をして、ポルトガル語はいまいち上達しなかったけど、いっぱいのあたたかさをもらいました！
最高な３ヶ月でした！！

荷造りもなんとか片付いて、最後の夕食は、"Carne de Sol"!
直訳すると、”太陽の肉！”私が好きなタイプはサイコロステーキタイプ。これが美味しいのです！！
とくに特別なステーキというわけではないけれど、何故か美味しい！私のブラジルランキングのかなり上位を占めるお気に入りの食べ物の一つです！

夕食後、家でマサミちゃんの髪の毛を切っていると、長女のミッシェリーニから電話が。
”今から行ってもいい？”と。

昨日は、私のお別れパーティーをしてもらい、今日は、エンヒ（ホストファミリーの長男、エンヒキの息子）の洗礼の日という事で、またまた、お宅へおじゃまして、最後の別れをしてきたのに。。別れを惜しんでか、もう一度会いにきてくれたのでした。
今日の午後のお別れの時も、“I miss you already..."と言ってくれたミッシェリーニ。その言葉で、私もじわっと涙が。。。するとみんなが、"Ayumi~~"と。。。ハグハグしてくれたのでした。

本当に素敵な家族がブラジルにもできました！

“いい友達はみんなどこかへ行ってしまう。。。”とまた涙目で話すミッシェリーニ。。言葉はほとんど通じなかったけど、しっかりと心で分かり合えたよね！ミッシェリーニ！
きっとまた会いにくるからね！！！

Muito muito obrigada por tudo!!!

素敵な時間をありがとう！！

これから、新しい一歩がまた始まります！

It's been a while...

Tomorrow, the host family is planning a good bye party for me!!
According to Masami, they have hosted many people but never had a good bye party and even Masami was supprised that they are having a party for me! I'm very honored!!

I was thinking to make something for them for a long time, since they have been sooooo nice to me but couldn't make anything. But, I have only a few days left and tomorrow is the good chance to present...so today, I finally made two pieces for them!! One for the family and one for the first daughter, Micheline, who I got really close to.

One for the family is a leaf collage. I draw fireworks as a memory of the time we spend together. These leaves are ones I picked in Recife.

Another one for Micheline is a wire piece. It's a sprout of our friendship with the message that I will always remember her from the other side of the world!!

I had a really really good time in Recie and good memories because of the family!

Thanks to all of you!!!

I hope I can meet them again someday soon!











明日は、ホストファミリーのお家で、お別れパーティーを開いてくれるらしい！
今まで、何人もの人たちがそのお家でお世話になってきているのに、あえてお別れパーティーをするなんて事はなかった、とマサミは言っていた。
そのお家に住んでいたわけでもない私のためにパーティーを開いてくれるなんて、なんて光栄な事なのでしょう！！

前々から、帰る前には感謝の気持ちを込めて何か作品にしてプレゼントできたら。。と思っていたけれど、なかなかいい案が浮かばず、延ばしのばしになっていました。
でも、もう日にちがありません！明日どうしても渡したかったので、今日がんばって２作品完成させました！！！

家族への作品は、一緒に過ごした時の思い出に、花火の切り絵を作りました。花火の部分はヘシフェで拾った落ち葉を使いました！

長女のミッシェリーニヘの作品は、新しい友情のあかしとして。。友情の芽を咲かせてみました。帰っちゃうんだね。。行っちゃうとさみしくなるよ。。。と言ってくれるミッシェリーニ。地球の反対側にいたって、いつまでも友達だよ！と言うメッセージを込めて。。。

この家族のおかげで、私のレシフェでの日々はとても素敵なものでした！

A day with "'Brennand's"

I have only 4 days left in Brazil....
So, finally I went to visit "Oficina Brennand" and "Instituto Recardo Brennand" that everyone recommended to visit!
First, Masami and I went to"Oficina Brennand" which is a big ceramic museum....so many pieces by Francisco Brennand was displayed. He is the one who made the weird tower in Maco Zero. This museum also has a lot of weird pieces and I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of the work..but the building is huge and he has a nice studio in the building. It seemed that they are making tiles and stuff in this huge studio. According to the taxi driver who took us there, Francisco likes to have a chat with visitors but unfortunately, he wasn't there today. He first studied law in collage but he because interested in art and traveled in Europe. Some website mentioned that he was very much inspired by Antonio Gaudi...hum..I love Gaudi's architecture...but.....

In the afternoon, we went to "Instituto Recardo Brennand". Passing the long road lined with cocoanut palms, there are two castle like buildings! Actually, Recardo is Francisco's brother ( somehow we thought they are father and son..but brother..)
This instituto has a museum is very orthodox and showing historical art of the time when Brazil was colonized.

I also got inspired visiting these two museum and planning to make something tomorrow!!

I'm enjoying the time I have left in Brazil!!


ブラジルでの素敵な生活も、残すところあと４日となってしまいました。。。
そんなわけで、皆さんに勧めら続けた、フランシスコ･ブレナンの陶芸美術館、とリカルド・ブレナンド（協会？）美術館に行ってきた！まずは、セラミックアーティストのフランシスコ･ブレナンのアトリエ／美術館へ！
とにかく、丘一個分がすべて彼の作品で埋まっていて、建物の中にもぎゅうぎゅう詰めに作品が押し込まれている。この人が、以前に紹介した、異様な塔を作った人。この美術館も何とも異様な雰囲気をかもし出していました。。。それでも、これだけの敷地、伸びやかな環境のなかで、作品作りをできるなんて。。。うらやましいな〜と思いながら。。。
法学部に入学したらしいが、アートのほうが向いていると、ヨーロッパヘで向き、バルセロナのガウディーの作品に感化され陶芸の道を目指したという。。。
ガウディーの作品は私も大好きであるが。。。ふむ。。
話し好きなおじいちゃんで、たまに美術館の方に顔を出したりなんかもするらしいのだけれど、今日はそれらしいおじいちゃんは歩いていませんでした。。。

そして、その後はリカルド・ブレナン美術館へ。まっすぐつづくヤシの木の並木道をぬけると、中世時代のお城を思わせる建物があらわれ、それが美術館！
フランシスコとリカルドは、兄弟らしいのだ。（始めは親子だと思っていた私達。。。）
こちらは、いわゆる正統派の美術館といった感じで、植民地時代のブラジルの歴史がアートによってちょっと学べた気がした。



明日は、ちょっと物づくりをする予定！久々にアートに触れて、いい感じに刺激を受けてきました！

残りの日々も楽しく過ごしま〜す！！

Feliz Ano Novo!!!

"Feliz Ano Novo!!" from Brazil!!
I had a great time with the host family for the new year's eve and the new year!!

In brazil or...in Recife? people gather on the beach to celebrate the new year!! Masami, the first daughter, Micheline and I wore Yukata to the beach!
Fireworks started by the midnight and we had champagne to celebrate!!
The music, drinks, and dancing...it is very different from Japanense quiet new year's eve, but I enjoyed it very much!!
Since we were wearing Yukata, everyone seemed to be very curious about us and some young kids were saying to us, "arigato-" and "sayonara"...I guess these are only Japanese they know?
Some of them were even more curious and stared at us for a long time...ha ha

After celebrating the new year on the beach, we first went to the grandmother's house for greeting! We had drinks and foods at grandmother's house and moved back to family's house to eat and drink more!
We brought some Sushi and they seemed to like it so much!!

When I realized, it was already after 4:30am and the sky was brightening already. So Micheline and I went to the beach again to wait for the first sunrise of the 2007 with beers in our hands..haha

There are clouds over the horizon so first the edge of clouds became orange and then gold. The bands of lights from clouds became longer and longer and the new sun showed its face through wisps of clouds! A Happy New Year, 2007!!!

I still don't understand what people say, but as the sun rised, Micheline and I both got goose bumps and hugged each other. And that's all we needed!! I'm really grad that I could spend this presious time with Micheline!!

I really had a great time with the family and the great start for 2007 because of them!!!

ブラジルから、"Feliz Ano Novo!!!"
こちらブラジルでも、明けました！
何ともにぎやかな年明けを、ホストファミリーのみんなと迎える事が出来ました！！

カウントダウンが近づくと、ワイワイと海岸に出向く人々。私とマサミ、そして、ホストファミリーの長女、ミッシェリーニの３人は浴衣を着て出かけたのでした！！
年明けと同時に、海岸では花火が上がり、それを眺めながら、シャンパンで乾杯！！
そして、がんがんに鳴り響く音楽。飲めや踊れやの大にぎわい！
日本の静かに響く除夜の鐘。。。といった雰囲気とはうってかわったお正月です。
さすがに浴衣＋日本人は珍しいらしく、人目を引いていた私達。中には、”ありがとう！”、”さようなら！”と知っている日本語を叫ぶ人たちもいて。ちっちゃい子供達なんかは、本当にもの珍しそうに近くまでよってきてずっと私達を観察してくれちゃったりするのです。。。（笑）

海岸で新年を迎えた後は、まず、おばあちゃんのお家にご挨拶に。。。そこでも、テーブルに並べられたごちそうをいただき、それからホストファミリーのお家に戻り、またごちそう！！

飲んで食べて、踊って歌って！私達がもっていった手巻き寿司も大人気で、なにより、なにより！

玄関先で煙草を吸っていると、向かいの家で飲んでいた男の子がやって来て、何やら私に話しているのだが、相変わらず私はチンプンカンプン。気がつくと、私が海岸でタバコを一本あげた男の子のようで、”日本人でしょ！、さっきタバコくれたでしょ！”なんて事を言っているよう。”ポルトガル語は分からないよ。。”といっても、私が困った顔をするのを見ては、”分かんないんだね”なんて言って笑っている。。
勝手に年を聞かれていると思い込んだ私は、”３６歳だよ”というと、信じられないといった顔をして、自分は１８歳だという。いったい私を何歳だと思っていたのだろう。。。？？
そこへミッシェリーニがやって来て、”向かいのお家で一緒に飲まないか？”って誘われているんだと教えてくれた。。新年早々、一回りも年のはなれた男の子にナンパされるなんて。。。今年は恋愛運が上がるかも？？（笑）

そんなこんなのうちに、もう時刻は４時半となり、だんだんと空が明るくなってきたので、ミッシェリーニと二人で海岸まで出かけ、初ビールを飲みながら日の出を待ちました。水平線にちょうど雲がかかり、その雲のふちがオレンジ色から金色に変わって、少しずつ光のラインをのばしながらやってきました！初日の出！おめでとう２００７年！！

もちろん、ミッシェリーニとだって、ちゃんとした会話ができるわけではないけれど、日の出を見ながら、二人で鳥肌立てながら、がしっと抱き合えば、心が通じるのです！

ホストファミリー＆まさみと過ごした年明け、そして、ミッシェリーニと二人で眺めた初日の出。

２００７年！素敵な年明けをここブラジルで迎える事が出来ました！

Porto de Galinhas and Maragoge

ジュリーとその友達のマリアナに便乗して、私達もパラダイスへの一泊旅行に行ってきました。
一日目は、Porto de Galinhasという、ヘシフェから焼く車で一時間半ほど南下したところにあるビーチへ。Porto de Galinhasを訳すと、ニワトリの港、その名前は、昔奴隷売買が禁止された頃、奴隷を運ぶ船をヘシフェから離れたこの港につけ、奴隷という言葉を公に言えないので、ニワトリがやって来たと言っていた事が由来とか（ガイドブックには、奴隷達はニワトリを運ぶ木箱につめられて運ばれてきたと説明されていたりもする）。。。そんな悲しい由来を持った名前を残したまま、今ではブラジルで最も有名なビーチの一つとして、観光地化されているこのビーチ。そして、港のいたるところで見かけるニワトリの置物のとぼけた顔。その置物を見ていると思わず笑ってしまうけれど、それでも考えると辛い歴史のある港です。

今回は年末ということもあって人、人、人。。。海を見ているというよりかは、人を見ているといった感じ。。それでも１−２週間で落ちてしまう偽物タトゥーを入れたり、笹の葉を細長くしたような葉っぱで、お魚や、バラの花を職人技のように作ってします少年の手つきに見とれたり。。。。ちょっと予想してい”ビーチ”ではなかったけれど、楽しんできました。
その日は、近くの安ホテルに泊まり、２日目はさらにそこから１時間ほど南下した、Maragogeというビーチに行ってきました。
そこは、かなり人も少なく、海もきれいで期待していたパラダイスにかなり近いビーチでした。
少し泳いで遊んでいると、地元の子供達がよってきて、ヒトデや貝を拾ってみせてくれた。もっと深いところまで一緒に行こうよといって、水の中で逆立ちしてみせてくれたりもした。しばらくして、何かをしきりに話しだしたと思ったら。。。どうやらこのあたりではピラニアがでるとか？？血が出ていると一発でよってくる！なんて言われて、私と友達はビビってしまった。。。私は足に傷があるというと、見せてみろといって、これはふさがっているから大丈夫！と、プロの目つきで言い切った男の子！。。。でも、ピラニアって淡水魚じゃなかったっけ？？？


もうそろそろ帰るからというと、もういっちゃうの？？と。。。とっても人なつっこい地元の子供達！

楽しいひとときをありがとう！

帰りの車の中から見える風景はとっても素朴な田舎町と言った感じ。そんな丘に、ぽつりぽつりと人家が見える。街を離れるに連れて、家の作りも変わり、そのうちテントのような家も見えだした。まだ、こんな風に生活をしている人がいるんだな〜っと考えさせられた。

今回は、ブラジル滞在も後わずか。あまりビーチ好きでない私だけれど、最後に有名なビーチに行くのもいいだろう、とバケーション気分で出かけたものの、いろいろと考えさせられる旅となりました。

Olinda

My friend, Julie, in Sao Paulo came to Recife!!!
This is the third times to meet her in Brazil. She came with her friend, Mariana, and staying with her family. Today, they borrow a car from Mariana's uncle to visit Olinda and invited me to join them! Since roads in Olinda are very steep, I'm grad I could go with them by car!! Thanks to them!

There are so many old churches in Olinda and many souvenir shops around them. Olinda is also known as a town of artists. It's very old town but buildings are painted colorfully and the town is very cute!

Today was a very hot day but we went out in the late morning. I don't usually go out around this hour, since it's really hot in Recife. Julie seemed to be beaten by this heat, too so we decided to go shopping mall to get cool down. Anyway, we wanted to do some shopping for a new year, too!

In Brazil, people wear white clothes and something new for a new year's day . Also there are different color ribbons for wishes. For example, "white is for peace", "red is for love", "green is for hope", "blue is for health", and "yellow is for money"...something like that. ( I'm not sure if they are right, so I will make sure which color is for what when I meet the host next time!)

Which color ribbon should I get?!!

By the way, when we were walking around in Olinda, someone called my name "Ayumi~!!!"... there is no one who knows me in this area and I was wondering who it was...

It was Micheline, the first daughter of the host family!! She was smiling and waving her hand to me!
I didn't expect to meet her or anyone in Olinda so it was really funny!!!

We are going to the beach called "Port de Galinhas" and another beach that I can't remember the name of.
It will be about an hour and half drive from here. Since we don't have a car, I thought it would be a bit difficult for us to go there this time, but Mariana is again taking her uncle's car so they invited Masami and me to join them!! It will be my last beach in Brazil!!

サンパウロの友達、ジュリーがヘシフェにやって来た！
これでブラジルで彼女に会うのは３回目！ジュリーはサンパウロの友達と一緒にやってきて、その友達の親戚のお家に泊まっている。今日は車が借りれたという事で、彼女達の観光に便乗して、オリンダへ連れて行ってもらった！！！
坂の多いオリンダ、車で行けてなによりであった。

古い教会が至る所に建っていて、その周りにはお土産屋さんが立ち並ぶ。そして、ここはアーティストの街としても知られているらしい。古いけど、カラフルな建物が建ち並び、とっても可愛い街なのです！
お昼前から観光に出かけ、炎天下の中歩き回っていた私達。普段こんな時間に外を出歩く事があまりない私、ジュリーもこの暑さにはやられている様子で、結局午後早めに切り上げて、冷房のきいているショッピングモールへ、お正月用のショッピングへ出かける事になった。

こちらのお正月は、白い服を着て、何か新しい物を身につけるらしい。それに加えて、願い事別に色分けされたリボンがあってそれも身につけるらしいのだ！
赤が「愛」、白が「平和」、緑が「希望」、青が「健康」、黄色が「お金」とかそんな風に別れているらしい。。（これは確かではないので、今度ホストマザーにもう一度確認してみますね）

私は何色のリボンにしようかな？！！

そうそう、そういえば、オリンダの丘の上に車を止めて、ぶらぶら歩き出したところで、どこかから。。。「Ayumi~!」と叫ぶ声が。。。
いったい誰がこんなところで私を知っているのか？？

振り返ると、ホストファミリーのところの長女のミッシェリーニがニコニコしながらこっちを見ている！
まさかこんなところでばったり会うなんて！！！
ちょっとローカル人になった気分！（笑）

明日から、１泊２日で、Port de Galinhas というビーチと、もう一つの（名前を思い出せない）ビーチでのんびりしてくる予定！きれいなビーチだと話には聞いていたけれど、ここから車で２時間ほど。車のない私達にはちょっと行きづらいと今回はあきらめていたけれど、ジュリーの友達が来るまで連れて行ってくれるというのでお言葉に甘えて！楽しんできま〜す！！！

X'mas!!

I spent X'mas eve with Masami's host family!! We went to a church around 9pm and had a the Mass for about 1 and half hour. There were children who wore wings as a angels and a baby who was supposed to be a Christ....He cried so loud while a priest was talking and people started laughing...ha ha I heard some familiar songs but of course they were singing them in Portuguese...but, Masami and I were singing them in English!!!

We waited till midningt to start eating so I was so hungry!! We had a good X'mas meal and exchanged presents! Then host mother's sister, Emilia and her daughter, Joanna performed their dance!!

I had a great X'mas in Brazil!!!



クリスマスイブを、マサミのホストファミリーと過ごしました！９時頃から、教会へいって、約、１時間半ほどのミサ。天使の格好をした子供達がでてきたり、産まれたばかりのキリストという設定で赤ちゃんがでてきたり。神父が話をしている間にすごい勢いで泣き出して、教会中、クスクス。。と笑いが広がったり。なじみのある歌もあったけど、もちろん歌詞はポルトガル語。私とマサミは思いっきり英語で歌っちゃいました！

クリスマスのごちそうは、１２時を過ぎてかららしく。。。ごちそうを目の前によだれがたれそうになる私。。。ははは
食事も済んで、プレゼント交換もすんだところで、ママさんの妹、エミリアと、その娘のジョアナが踊りを披露してくれた！

夜中まで、外では爆竹、音楽が鳴り響き、にぎやかなクリスマスでした！！！

Merry Christmas!!

It's still in the afternoon of the Christmas Eve over here. We will spend the night with Masami's host family!! So now we are preparing the food to bring!!
It's very hot in Recife and I can't believe it's already the end of the year....only a week left for this year....wow

Oh, by the way, I visited Recife Antigo (old Recife) the other day. I have been this area many times but this was the first time I took a picture of "the weird tower!!" It was build by the famous artist, Francisco Brennand, and this reef top is called "Francisco Brennand Sculpture Park"... but it is a bit toooooooo...weird, isn't it???

といっても、こちらはまだお昼なので、クリスマスイブをホストファミリーと過ごすので、持っていく料理の準備状態。
なんといっても、暑い。。。まったくクリスマス気分には慣れませんが。。。残すところ今年も後わずかですね。。。

Happy Holiday!!!

おっと。。。こないだ、へシフェアンティーゴへ行ってきました。何度もこの辺りに入っているのだけれど、写真をとった事がなかったので。。。そこから見える、ちょっと異様な塔。。。有名なアーティストによって立てられたものらしいのだけれど。。。ちょっと不気味。。。（笑）

Busy, busy!

Soon, it will be the X'mas. We decided to spend the time with Masami's host family! So we are busy buying X'mas presents for the family member...
About 20 mins bus drive from the apartment, there is a shopping mall and a book store. We went there the day before yesterday and looked for some presents...but we ended up buying a lot of stuff for ourselves..ha ha ha
When we got out or the book sotre, it was already dark and we heard some music from the port. There were so many people dress up with vivid color costumes and it seemed like some kind of events was going on...
There were a lot of booths selling food also so of course we got "churrasco" (grilled barbecue on a skewer, we had a chicken one! ) and it was soooo good!!!

Yesterday, the second daugher of the host family came back from German with her husband. It's been 2 years since they came back to Brazil so all family went to welcome them at the airport. I haven't met the daughter and even Masami hasn't met her but, of course, as a member of the family....ha ha, we also went to the airport...
We planed to go back directly from the airport, but when Masami said that we were not coming to their house...every one looked at Masami and screamed "Nãooooo!!!!" and even asked me if Masami was really busy or not....so..., we ended up going to their house and had dinner with them, too!
There was so many people around a table and food was delicious, too! When I have meal with them, I get so full because the mother is putting more food on my plate even though I said I was full....but it was fun and we even got a cake to bring back...haha, thanks to Ivanuldo!!!

もうすぐクリスマス。そして、クリスマスは、マサミのホストファミリーと過ごす事に。毎年恒例のプレゼント交換があるという事で、私達もプレゼントショッピングを始めた。
バスで２０分ほどのところに、大きな本屋さんとショッピングモールがある。まずはそこから、という事で二人で気合いを入れて出かけたものの、買ったもには自分のものばかり。ははは
それでも、かなり長い間本屋さんをぶらぶらして、外に出た時にはもう暗くなっていた。。。
外に出ると港の方が何やら、ガヤガヤと騒がしい。ちょっと覗きにいってみたら、何やら、派手な格好をした人たちがたむろっている。
すでに年末の催しものがはじまっているらしい！
脇の道を覗くとそこにはずらっと屋台が並んでいた。匂いにつられた私達、チキンのシャハースコをいただく事に！これがまた、信じられないくらい美味しく感じたのでした！（大満足！）

昨日は、ホストファミリーのところの次女が、ドイツから帰ってくるという事で、みんなで空港へお迎えに。今回は２年ぶりという事で、私はもちろん、マサミだってあった事のない娘さんなのに、ホストマザーから電話があって、空港まで来るでしょ！と、私達、すっかり家族の一員なのである。
そのまま空港で別れるつもりで出かけたものの、さぁ、帰ろうかッという時に、マサミが私達はここで。。。というと、家族全員が振り返り、一斉に”N?o~!!!!"と！なんで来れないんだ、どうしてそんな事いうんだ！と攻められている。ママさんは英語の話せるホストドウターのデリアを連れて私のところまでやって来て、マサミは本当に忙しいのか、仕事って言っているけど今から本当に仕事があるのか？と。。。すごい勢いなのである。。。（笑）
そんなわけで、結局私達も一緒にお家で夕飯をおよばれする事に。。
座りきらないぐらいの人が机を囲み、ワイワイガヤガヤの楽しい夕食！もう、お腹いっぱいだ〜！と思ったところに、ママさんがもう少しどう？とすでに何かがもられたデッカいスプーンを差し出してくる。”No.."といっても結局、ま〜ま〜といわれてもられてしまうので、もう最近は、はい、いただきます！という事にしている。。。
今日もまたお腹いっぱい食べて、美味しいケーキももらって、みんなの笑顔を見て楽しいひととき。

長女のミッシェリーニは、もっとちょくちょく遊びにきてくれないとだめだよ！と。。。別れ際に一言。
寂しがりやのミッシェリーニ、でも大好きな妹が帰ってきたから、しばらくは寂しくないね！

This year's illimination theme is blue and red......Accordeing to the family, it was done by the famous illumination artist, but...it's not so cute, isn't it...The blue and red lights are also set in front of our apartment and I'm not really happy with it...:(
どうやら、今年の年末年始用の町中のイルミネーションは、赤と青がテーマらしい。話に聞くと、けっこう有名なイルミネーションアーティストが手がけたらしいのだが。。。ちょっと不気味だとは思いませんか？？マサミのアパートの前も、ビーチに沿って、赤、青のライトが照らせれ、ちょっと不愉快なのです。。私達。。。

See you again!!

Today is Sunday, so there are so many people on the beach!!
It will be soon X'as and the new year so stages are builded on the beach and people are shooting fireworks all day...

It's the summer time in Brazil and I feel that it's getting hotter and hotter everyday. Because of this hot weather, I can't believe it's the end of the year already...

Yesterday, two British deaf freinds, Jason and Helen, went back to their country! The night before, we had a big good bye party near by our apartment. British and Brazilian deaf people and Masami and me...it was very strange in a good way..ha ha
The convenience of sign language is that you can speak with any one...it doesn't matter if you are sitting with someone side by side or if the place is so noisy...
One thing that I was very impressed was that even though some of British and Brazilian deaf friends were the first time to meet each other, it seemed that they had no problem communicating each other... It could be very difficult if it was speaking language..... hum....it would be great if I know at least one sigh language then I would be able to communicate much better!!!

Jason and Helen stayed last nigth with us. In the early morning, they were already up because of the heat...this apartment get pretty hot especially in the morning... They seemed to be hungry so I cooked some breakfast and made coffee as well! I guess they didn't expect to have a decent breakfast so they seemed to be very happy! Jason said (signed..) "this doesn't look like we are staying freind's apartment, this is like staying a hotel!!" ha ha
This is Japanese way!! not like German way....( if you remember the story we visited to German friend's apartment...you understand the joke...)

They went out for the last time in Brazil and came back with some shopping bags. I thought they bought presents for their friends or family but it was for US!!! Thanks!!
I also gave them Japanese tenugui for them to remember two Japanese freinds!!!

We went to the airport to say the last good bye....They kept saying "you have to come visit us in England!!"

Well, now I have to make a plan to visit England, too!!! yey!


彼らは最後の用事があると出かけてゆき、帰ってくるとまた何か買い物をしてきている。最後にお土産でも買ったのかな？なんて思っていたら、なんと私達へのプレゼント！
こちらも用意していた手ぬぐいを、二人の日本人を忘れないでね！とプレゼント！
そして空港まで見送りに行き、じゃ、今度はイギリスで会おう！と約束して最後のバイバイ！何度も何度も「うちにおいでよ！」と言ってくれる二人。

自分が旅行者の身で、誰かを見送ることになるとは思ってもいなかったけど、こうして新しい友達ができ、再会を約束して。。。
友達の輪が広がるというのはとってもうれしいことですね！

これでイギリスに行く目的ができた！！イギリス旅行の計画を立たなくては！！だ！（笑）

今日は日曜日！目の前に広がるビーチには、わんさかの人！
クリスマス、お正月が近いというのもあって、最近はビーチにステージが出来上がっていたり、夜中にかなりうるさい花火／爆竹が鳴り響いたり！今朝も朝からアパートの目の前でバンバンと音がして、その音で目が覚めた。。。

ブラジルはこれから本格的な夏、日に日に暑くなっているように感じる。。。そんな天候のせいもあって、全く年末という気がしない！

昨日は、イギリス人の聾の友達Jason と Helenの帰国の日。一昨日の夜には、最後のお別れパーティーがあった！ブラジルとイギリスの聾の友達達と私とマサミ。ワイワイ、ガヤガヤと手が動く彼ら達！手話の便利なところは、どんなに周りがうるさくても、隣に座っていなくても誰とでも会話ができてします。長ーい机の向かい合い同士で話している人もいれば、端と端に座っている二人が会話をしていたり。どこの会話にもひょっと入れてしまうし、みんなの会話が読めてしまう。（もちろん手話が分かればの話だけれど。。。）
それでも、今回初めてあったはずの、ブラジル人と、イギリス人の聾者達、手話も違うはずなのにしっかり会話が成り立っているよう。。。これが健聴者で英語や、ポルトガル語と言う、口語的言語に頼ると、その言語を知らなければ全く会話が成り立たないはず。。。もちろん、Heart to heartで、伝わるものはあるにしても、手話での会話のようにはいかないのでは。。。
そんなことを考えながら。。。今回もまた聾の友達と楽しいひとときを過ごす事が出来た！

Jason と Helenは、うちにお泊まり。あまりの暑さにあまり寝れなかったという二人。私が目を覚ますとすでにリビングに座ってぼーっとしていた。ご飯食べる？コーヒー入れようか？と聞くと「うんうん！」というので、眠たい目をこすり、朝食を準備！
がんばってこしらえた朝食、「まるでホテルのようだね！友達の家にお邪魔しているとは思えないよ！」と喜んで朝食を食べてくれた二人！
これが日本的なおもてなし！ドイツじゃこうはいかない！と。あ〜そんなこともあったね〜なんて笑いながら楽しい朝食！（私達がマセイオに行ったとき、Helen と Jason は、私達がランチを作るはめになったドイツ人の友達のところに泊まっていたのだ。。）
